Honeymoonin’ in Maine

Less than 48 hours after we said “I do” we got in the car and set off on a 20 our drive to Kennebunkport, ME. We stayed at bed and breakfasts during our whole 10 day trip. It made it feel a little bit homier, we got a little more privacy, and it was all we could book since we were both under 21! haha. That’s what happens when you marry young.

Once we got to Kennebunkport we checked into the cutest little cottage and decided to stay forever. (well, we wish)

Our form of transportation in Kenne was beach cruiser. We rode bikes everywhere and I am so grateful that we did. It let us stop, slow down, and take it all in. Plus we really needed to burn some cals with all of the food we ate during the trip.

Playing in the water sounded like a good idea..

…then I quickly realized it was too cold for this midwester.

It blows me away how God moves us if we just sit still and let him.

That day we sat on the beach and played in the sand as the waves came crashing into the shore. It was cold and foggy, the water was choppy, and there were little people out and about. But as I sat there watching the water I was amazed by Gods creation. The ocean is such a small creation of God’s vastness and yet there it was, powerful and mighty, able to control and overtake me if I gave it the power to.

I was then refilled with fear for God. My heart was humbled, and my soul was replenished because even as the waves rushed towards me there was sand beneath my fingers. I was planted on solid ground feeling sturdy and strong, confident in the rock beneath me.

God is powerful. He is mighty and strong. He can be angered and He should be feared. But He is also so so good, and gracious and kind and loving and patient and He provides and fulfills where our hearts need most.

When life is scary and the waves of life are choppy and crashing at your feet, threatening to take you away, take heart in the firm foundation God has given you in Him. Feel the ground beneath your feet and know that you are safe. Because life is scary sometimes, just like the sea. But God gives you the shore.

After 3 short days in Kennebunkport it was our final night there. We rode our bikes out to a crab shack and stopped to search for sea glass and take a few pictures while the sun was setting. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Then the next morning we left for Portland, Maine. To satisfy the coffee snob we hit up one of the best coffee shops in town. And I had the best latte that’s ever existed.

This was also the day that I fell in love with acai bowls. A very expensive addiction.

Then we got donuts! It’s safe to say we ate A LOT on this trip.

That night we ferried off to sleep at a resort on an island. (the under 21 curse/blessing) But honestly, it was so cool and we wish we could have spent more time there.

For our final leg of our trip we spent 3 days in Bar Harbor, Maine. We went to Acadia National Park, hiked, sea-kayaked with seals, and climbed up mountains to fill Dyl’s adventurous heart.

(These pictures were taken at the same time on opposite sides of a trail.. how cool is that?!)

It was the last day of the honeymoon and we packed SO MUCH into our day. We sea kayaked that morning, hiked in the afternoon, then headed out of town for our last Maine lobster dinner. On the way back into town Dylan whipped it into a putt putt place 20 minutes before it closed. The whole time we were in Bar Harbor I had my eye on that putt putt place. Dylan knew that growing up that was always what my family did on vacation. He knows my heart, and with a full belly and tired body, he ran around a miniature pirate themed course in the cold to make me feel more at home. He’s a good husband. I’m a grateful wife.

We barely saw the sun the whole week we were there, but coming home from dinner on the last night the sun came out just long enough for it to set. We pulled off on the side of the road and sat together, talking and watching for a while. We were starting to crave coming home and getting back to a routine, but this was a perfect way to end the trip.
